Behavior Supports

At Madison School District we understand that a student's behavior can greatly influence his or her performance in school. We make a concerted effort to train both our classified and certified staff on strategies to positively influence student behavior and relationships, and make it a point of emphasis in our schools.

Our primary training and philosophy is centered on the research-based program School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS or SWPBIS). Generally, this program emphasizes setting up school-wide, proactive interventions designed to increase positive behavior in all students. Additionally, more specific intervention programs -- such as Check-in/Check-out (CICO) -- are designed to help increase positive behaviors for students with specific challenges.

In some cases, a student-centered team, including parents, will conduct a functional behavior assessment (FBA) and gather other pertinent information to design a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). This process ensures that schools and parents are working together to problem-solve and design appropriate, specific behavior management for students with disabilities.
