This weeks #peopleofmadison post will be a bit different. It will be a letter to the #peopleofmadison from the person who has been the voice/creator behind this page the last 13 years. Dear Madison, I can't believe that today is my last day of work! There are so many emotions and memories to sift through and it reminds me of nearly 20 years ago, when you sent me off into the world with the Madison class of 2003. I enjoyed every minute (ok, maybe not every...those awkward middle school years were rough) of my K-12 education that you offered me. Your teachers and staff encouraged me, taught me and gave me confidence to pursue my dreams! I nervously graduated, left the comfort of the places and people I knew to go out into the world and apply myself. . . Little did I know, you had more to teach me. Thirteen years ago I found myself back in your buildings and halls, only this time, as an employee. The lessons I have learned were different and not learned out of a book, yet, still taught to me by the wonderful people of Madison. I made a home for myself here and sought safety from the turmoils of life. You remained constant and consistent...supportive and encouraging as I have traveled my journey the last 13 years. You were never just a job to me. Now, I find myself again at a crossroads in life where we must part ways. Just like graduation day 20 years ago, I nervously prepare to move forward with the valuable lessons and experiences you so graciously provided. 26 years of my life have revolved around you. 26 years of learning, growing, failing and starting again. 26 years worth of lessons and love from the #peopleofmadison. 26 years (and counting) as a proud Bobcat. Thank you, #peopleofmadison, for helping me to become who I am today. You have forever left your handprint on my heart. Madison Cares Early Childhood Group Connection will be Grab N' Go for January. These activities are free and designed for families with children 0 to Kindergarten entry. We invite you to register today and then stop by the Madison Education Center (60 W. Main) on Wednesday, January 18th between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm (yes, pick-up will be all day) to pick up your Grab N' Go activity pack! For the month of January, we will focus on the theme: "There's Snow Time Like the Present". These fun winter-themed activities focus on the idea that Growth and Development occur in all domains of development during all seasons and that we can find activities that relate to our current season to help our children continue to grow and develop. Please spend time this month using these activities as boredom-busters during this cold season, so that your child will continue to practice meeting their milestones even when it feels like too much of a burden to come up with one more indoor activity or bundle your children up one more time to go play outside. The activities in this month's bag are Sticker A Snowflake, Polar Bear Polar Bear, Polar Bear Buddies, Once I Was A Snowman, Snow My Feelings, and Snow Your Shapes. Registration is required. Mrs. Cottle and her class had the top secret mission to do something kind to thank our food service staff. They class decided to make a giant thank you card to give to our larger than life lunch ladies. Each student signed the card with a special note to our lunch staff. Andrew Ashcraft is the technology assistant specialist for our school district and has been for the past 3 ½ years. Andrew helps the teachers and the students have the technology they need by keeping the technology up and working so that the students are able to have a successful learning environment! When being asked what his favorite part of his job is, Andrew said, “The people I get to work with. Both the staff, my co-workers, and the teachers that we support.
