1000 Books Flyer!

We are excited to strengthen our focus on early literacy with our schoolwide reading goal!:

Every child will read (or have read to them) at least 400 books this School Year!

To support this goal, we will continue using the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Many families are already participating—thank you! For others, this is a great time to jump in. Everyone can take part as we work toward our 400‑book goal together!

📚How the Program Works:

Any book your child hears counts—books read at home, at school, by teachers, siblings, or family members. Repeated readings count! We will also add all books read at school to your child’s total.

💬How to Report Books:

Please use ONLY ONE reporting method to avoid double-counting:

🖥️Option 1: Weekly Online Survey

  • Each week, you’ll receive a short survey to report how many books were read outside of school.

  • No need to list titles.

  • Repeated readings count!

  • We will update your child’s total and notify the librarian when they reach each 100‑book milestone.

📘Option 2: Paper Reading Log

  • Use the 100‑book log sent home by teachers.

  • Mark one space per book.

  • When a sheet is complete, turn it in to our librarian, Marie Atkinson.

🎉REWARDS!!

For every 100 books read, students will receive a small prize from the librarian AND have their name entered into a drawing for one of two Yoto Player Starter Packs at the end of the school year!

📜The "FINE PRINT" (Rules):

  1. Students can receive prizes from the library for reading up to 2000 books.

  2. Students will continue having their name entered into the drawing for every 100 books read, up to 2000 books (20 entries max).

  3. Students can continue participating in the 1000 books program after reading 2000 books, but they will no longer receive prizes for the library or have additional entries into the drawing.

  4. Books MUST be reported within 2 months of being read. Books read more than 2 months before the report date will NOT be counted.

📖Need More Books?

Parents can check out up to 10 books at a time from our ECEC library! Books can be checked out Monday–Thursday, 10:30–11:30 AM. You can also try stopping by a few minutes before or after your child's preschool session if the Librarian is available.

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey! Having each child read an additional 400 books contributes to our schoolwide reading goal and moves your child along our reading racetrack display. Together, we can build strong literacy habits and celebrate every child’s success!
