1000 Books Flyer

We are excited to strengthen our focus on early literacy with our schoolwide reading goal:

Every child will read (or have read to them) an additional 200 books between now and the end of the school year!

To support this goal, we will continue using the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Many families are already participating—thank you! For others, this is a great time to jump in. Everyone can take part as we work toward our 200‑book goal together!

📚How the Program Works:

Any book your child hears counts—books read at home, at school, by teachers, siblings, or family members. Repeated readings count! We will also add all books read at school to your child’s total.

💬How to Report Books:

Please use only one method to avoid double-counting:

📘Option 1: Paper Reading Log

  • Use the 100‑book log sent home.

  • Mark one space per book.

  • When a sheet is complete, turn it in to our librarian, Marie Atkinson.

🖥️Option 2: Weekly Online Survey

  • Each week, you’ll receive a short survey to report how many books were read at home.

  • No need to list titles.

  • Repeated readings count!

  • We will update your child’s total and notify the librarian when they reach each 100‑book milestone.

🎉Rewards:

For every 100 books, students receive a small prize from the librarian. Having each child read an additional 200 books contributes to our schoolwide reading goal, and moves your child along our reading racetrack display. Additionally, if your child has already completed the 1000 books reading program, they can start over again and continue receiving prizes!

📖Need More Books?

Parents can check out up to 10 books at a time from our ECEC library! Books can be checked out Monday–Thursday, 10:30–11:30 AM. You can also try stopping by a few minutes before or after your child's preschool session if the Librarian is available.

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey! Together, we can build strong literacy habits and celebrate every child’s success.
