The Comprehensive Literacy Course provided by Madison School District is an individualized course delivered online in a web-based environment. It is a pass/fail course. The course consists of the three literacy strands/standards, which are divided into three modules.
Each standard/course takes approximately sixteen hours to complete and requires professional workmanship. Participants can register for the strands they need if they don’t need all three. The state ICLC requirement includes all three standards.
Participants have one year from their start date to complete the three standards. However, if you are also registering for university credits, you will need to register and complete the course within the university semester time frame. If you are not able to complete the Madison course in one year, you will forfeit your money. You will need to then take the literacy course from another provider.
Practicum student activities accompany strand I and II. Participants may choose to work with a classroom or individual students from their home, neighborhood, etc.
The cost for out-of-district participants is $75 for each of the three strands: $225 to Madison District. The State Department no longer pays or reimburses for the course.
Book for the ICLC class: CORE Teaching Reading Sourcebook by Honig, Diamond, and Gutlohn (copyright 2000 or 2013). You can purchase either edition from amazon.com. The “used” 2000 editions are very reasonable, but the 2013 edition is still pricey.
Please do not order the 2008 version.
Although the 2000 and 2013 editions are organized differently, the assignment modules within the standards cover the same concepts.
Credits for all participants are available through NNU, at $60 for each strand ($180 for all three strands). I will be sending you NNU credit registration as you near completion of the course. Please don’t send money for credits now.
You will receive verification from Madison District for completing the ICLC requirement. You do not need to take credit for verification completion. However, if you take NNU credits, the class will also be listed on your NNU transcript.
I will send you log-in information via email when you have registered, and we have received your check.
Please fill out the registration form, make out your check to Madison
